Tour du Baillage
Last update: 15 February 2023, 11:42
WHERE: in Guido Rey street.
HISTORY: As it happened to many others towers of Augusta Praetoria, in the eleventh and twelfth centuries the “Tour du Baillage” was occupied by a noble family who enlarged it, using the blocks to the lining of the Roman material found nearby. From 1430 to 1626 it became the seat of the bailiff of Aosta (previously, it was established in the Bramafam Tower) and was subject to further extensions. Until the beginning of the eighties it hosted the city jails. Unused for about twenty years, it has been designed, at the end of a restoration project recently completed as the headquarters of the “Fondazione Istituto Musicale Regionale”.
