WHERE: in Bramafam street, at the crossroads with Carducci street.
HISTORY: in the Middle Ages, the area occupied by the ancient Porta Principalis Dextera was adapted to accommodate a castle, now known as Bramafam. It was built by the powerful and noble family of the viscounts Challant, who made it their representative seat in Aosta. Around the middle of the twelfth century, it housed the public granary, the Court and also the bailiwick. The presence of the grain warehouse would have led the population of Aosta, hungry from a famine in the mid-fourteenth century, to gather at the foot of the fort to ask for food (from a dialectal expression translated as "craving hunger"). In 1295, the viscounts Challant gave up the office and the fortress - now only visible from the outside - was ceded to Savoy.
